Our weekend was spent enjoying the beauty of the Lake District in Cumbria. This area is the home of the poet William Wordsworth and after travelling through the area we can see where his inspiration came from. This post will be mainly photos as we just couldn’t stop gasping as we came across awe inspiring scenery.
On Saturday we drove a short distance from Ulverston to Lakeside, the southern end of Lake Windermere, where we caught a boat which took us to a town called Bowness. We spent an hour or two there then caught the boat again and went up to the northern end of the lake, which is a total of 10 miles/16 km long and disembarked at Ambleside. We looked around Ambleside then headed back. There was no rain all day but it was quite cold and windy out on the water.

Sunday’s adventure was a road trip, clockwise round the district. Not sure how many lakes there are but there seemed to be a new one every few miles. The ones I can remember seeing were Coniston Water, Rydal, Grasmere, Thirlmere, Derwentwater and Ullswater (the last one is in a valley with steep hills surrounding it and is spectacular) Although we took lots of photos I’m sure they don’t do it justice.

Between Coniston and Rydal we also stopped in an area called Hawkshead which is where Beatrix Potter had spent childhood holidays, then bought her home Hill Top, from the earnings of her earlier books. Hill Top is still set up as it would have been when Beatrix lived there and even the vege garden has been kept as you would imagine it from her books. In Hawkshead itself there is a museum displaying her original drawings. Even Brent enjoyed this one.

Great achievement to absorb and record so much. Photos capture the atmosphere of places described.Love Mum and Dad
