Getting a taste of Devon

Torquay is in the county of Devon so of course it is only right that we have a Devonshire tea while there.

From where we were staying it was an easy walk to Cockington Country Park which still has old thatched houses, the Manor House, an old church, a cricket ground and acres of parkland used for farming, hiking and bike tracks. Despite showery weather we spent a few hours enjoying the area. Behind the Manor House are a few art and craft shops, one of which is run by a Kiwi woman, who we had a lovely chat with. She gave us a few tips of places to visit.

While there we had a lovely lunch (Devonshire tea for Raewyn, Cornish pasty for Brent)

By later in the afternoon the rained had cleared so we walked along the clifftop at Babbacombe then down onto the beach, before heading down to the Torquay waterfront for a lovely dinner at a French restaurant.

In the afternoon we visited the Model Village in Babbacombe, a suburb of Torquay. The village consists of a variety of scenes made up of scaled models of buildings, cars and people.

Wombley Stadium – a pun on Wembley
There was a flame coming out of the roof from time to time and real water coming from the fireman’s hose
Babbacombe beach – note the massive slip at the end. Apparently a house was taken down when it slipped a few years back

  1. These photos are amazing. The model village is a real beauty of creativity and architectural skills. Sizes of the buildings and houses are unclear sometimes it looks like real big. May be if you have taken photos while standing beside of any building then we can have an idea. But still these are awesome..!!
