Despite heavy rain all night on Monday and Tuesday morning we decided to get out of the house to try to explore what we could.
First order of the day was to buy a couple of cheap umbrellas which we put to use on a walk around the Penzance waterfront and town. Now we’re in Cornwall we keep seeing pasty shops and they all seem to have a claim to fame.

From Penzance we went to Land’s End. What an unimaginative name for a place, when you consider all the other interesting, weird or funny names for places throughout Cornwall it seems odd that such a dramatic place shouldn’t have a more inspired name. Never mind! The area was impressive.

We then drove a short way to The Minack Theatre which is an outdoor theatre built on the side of a cliff, overlooking the sea. We had hoped to get to go inside but we arrived while a matinee was on so we could only look down from above.

From here we went to St Ives, the most gorgeous little seaside town.By now the rain had stopped so going to a beachside town seemed ideal. It really reminded us of the town in France, also on the coast, where Mathilde, our exchange student lives. The water is so clear. We loved walking around the beachfront and then sitting having a drink overlooking a lovely bay.
